Back to the 2014 AD100 List
Los Angeles has its share of one-name entertainment superstars (think Cher, or perhaps Rihanna), but in the world of Hollywood decorators, only Waldo Fernandez has the résumé and reputation to go by a single moniker. For decades Waldo has been synonymous with L.A. sophistication and savoir faire, astutely mixing distinctive furnishings and artworks in cosmopolitan yet eminently comfortable homes for celebrities from Elizabeth Taylor to Tobey Maguire. He further makes his mark on the city by reimagining such institutions as the restaurant Spago and the Forum, the storied former sports arena the designer is helping to revive as an elite concert venue. And with his growing international commissions (including an outpost of Wolfgang Puck’s high-style chophouse Cut at the forthcoming Four Seasons in Bahrain), the rest of the world is getting a taste of Waldo’s irrepressible spirit. waldosdesignom
