Architect Peter Zumthor Appointed to Rolex's Mentor and Protégé Initiative

by David Stewart

Rolex has just appointed Swiss iconoclast Peter Zumthor to the 2014 architecture post of its Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative—a celebrated 12-year-old program pairing established leaders in a range of creative fields with promising young practitioners. “I believe in the professional exchange of people of different backgrounds, talents, skills, and age,” says the Pritzker Prize winner, who has conceived such acclaimed buildings as the Therme Vals hotel and spa in the Graubünden canton of Switzerland and recently unveiled a bold new design for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He and his disciple (who will be announced next year) will work on the theme “spaces for music.” rolexmentorprotegeom
