New York’s Landmarks Commission Tackling 25-Year Backlog

by David Stewart

New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission is finally taking on its 25-year backlog of 95 properties that are being considered for designation. The commission had proposed eliminating the items from its calendar, which would have left the sites vulnerable, but members scrapped that idea after community backlash. So now through November 12 , they will consider each property as originally planned. Here are some of the locations on the docket.

Bergdorf Goodman, Manhattan

Pepsi-Cola sign, Queens

James McCreery & Co., Manhattan

Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn

Union Square Park, Manhattan
