Carleton Varney, president of Dorothy Draper Company, along with Sara Beaudry and Daniel Parker, updated the Draper-designed 1930s penthouse in The Stoneleigh Hotel Spa in Dallas.

The design of the dining room was dictated by the oval shape of the space, says Beaudry. "It's festive, and it really knocks your socks off," she says. The pale aquamarine on the walls is "very much a Dorothy Draper color," she explains. Table, chairs and sideboard, Baker Knapp Tubbs.

"Enchantment is what we were after," Varney says of the Presidential Suite. "The colors are so restful." Cowtan Tout brocade. Drapery trim, Samuel Sons. Armchair and desk chair fabrics, Brunschwig Fils. Stark carpet. Table lamp, Vaughan. End table, Baker Knapp Tubbs.

The gallery that leads to the library has a "ceremonial feel to it," says Beaudry. The stencil on the wood flooring "echoes Dorothy Draper's love of floors laid out on the diagonal," she notes. Instead of her signature black and white, the designers chose a lighter palette. Sofa stripe, Kravet. Drapery damask, Lee Jofa.
