This is the best-value Panasonic TV deal of the Black Friday weekend

by David Stewart

Here's a Panasonic TV deal worth more than a glance. Originally £699, the Panasonic HX800 40in 4K HDR TV has tumbled down to just £549 in Currys PC World’s early Black Friday sale. The mid-range HX800 was already one of the best-value 4K TVs of 2020 and this £150 discount is an unmissable bargain – the HX800 has never been so cheap.

So why should you choose the HX800 over any other 4K TV around the same price? Well, the Panasonic HX800 is actually the 2020 follow-up to our favourite mid-range TV of last year, the Panasonic GX800 ( read our five-star Best Buy review ). Like that TV, the new HX800 has universal HDR coverage, meaning it supports HDR 10, HLG, HDR 10+ and – most importantly – Dolby Vision. Most TVs have two or three HDR formats but supporting all four is pretty rare, especially among affordable models such as the HX800.

As for actual HDR performance, we’re hoping for great things from the HX800. Its precursor delivered exceptional HDR quality for the price, presenting vibrant colours and impressive specular highlight detail in spite of the TV’s limited peak brightness. Edge-lit LED LCD TVs like this can’t hope to match the contrast levels of expensive OLEDs or LCDs with full-array local dimming (FALD), but the GX800 made the most of what it had. You can expect more of the same from the HX800.

Panasonic’s My Home Screen platform has all the basic smart functions you’d expect, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and it carries most of the major streaming platforms, including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Of course, you’ll also get access to all of the free UK catch-up services with Freeview Play.

And there’s more. In addition to its top-notch HDR credentials, the HX800 supports Dolby Atmos audio so you can really immerse yourself in every aspect of the cinematic experience. Into gaming? The HX800 has Auto-Low Latency Mode and will boot into its Game Mode when certain consoles – such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X – are connected in order to speed up response times.
