View the Wall Street Bull, Bugs Bunny, and Batman’s Signal—All Made from Cans

by David Stewart

Founded in 1992, Canstruction is an annual, multicity event bringing together top architects and engineers to compete for the best designed structure made entirely of cans. Adding to the excitement is the goodwill, as all cans are donated to local food banks. This year, New York City’s Brookfield Place shopping complex—located in downtown Manhattan, next to Architectural Digest’s offices at One World Trade Center—is hosting its seventh annual Canstruction event. This year’s contest includes 27 firms, among them Gensler , HOK , and Dattner Architects , each with ambitions of winning awards in various categories. The program brought in more than 70,000 pounds of food last year and drew nearly 34,000 visitors. Pictured here is Hunger Has “Dragon” Too Long by WSP I Parsons Brinckerhoff. Canstruction is free to the public and runs through November 16. For more information visit newyorkanstructionrg .
